This carbide lamp was made by Lucas of Birmingham, who used to be a world leader in cycle lighting. Joseph Lucas was a keen cyclist, and his company became a major supplier of automotive and aerospace parts before a disastrous merger at the end of the last century. Some remnants of the company still exist in Birmingham, owned by foreign companies. Cycling having been pushed to the margins by UK government policy, the world leaders in cycle lighting are now German, Dutch, and Japanese.
